This is something that we have mentioned before but it is worth repeating because some people don’t realise it. When you buy a footstool, it takes up a certain amount of space in your living room, or bedroom, or wherever else you use it. It is not a solid block of wood, with or without legs, covered in a pretty material.
In effect, what you have is an empty box. So, if it is square, it has four sides and a top and bottom. Or it may be a drum or whatever, but there is still empty space. So, why not make use of that empty space? If you make the top of the box into a lid with a coupe of hinges, you have just turned it into a footstool with storage space!
We all need plenty of storage space these days, what with all the clutter that we collect. In days gone by, when we had radios, and before everyone had a TV, we didn’t have remotes. We didn’t have all the DVDs, CDs, laptops, mobiles, tablets, and so on that we have today, and which must always be instantly available at all times. When you have a footstool with storage you have it all right there to hand (or should that be to foot?) so it is there when you need it but not cluttering up the living room the rest of the time.
So, when you need to use your laptop, you can just fish it out of the footstool, set it down on top, and away you go chatting to everyone on Facebook or LinkedIn or whatever.
Another Idea
Here’s another great idea. You should also buy a large serving tray. This can have many uses apart from being used as a serving tray, although that’s great when you have guests to dinner.
But you can also pop your large serving tray down on top of the footstool and use it for all sorts, such as playing card games on, standing a small easel on it so you can paint, stand the laptop on it, keep all your knitting wools on it, serve a glass or two of vino on it, and so on.
In addition, if you’re like us, you will always love to have flowers around the home, especially in the living room. So, you can use a large serving tray to stand your flower arrangements on as well.
