If you go back 60 or 70 years you will find that almost every household had a footstool or two, but for some reason, towards the end of the last century, they went somewhat out of fashion. Maybe it was the younger people who were born in the 1960’s, after which came the era of mods and rockers.
Those sorts of young people would have nothing to do with what their parents and grandparents did because they felt that they were somehow different, and therefore important. They did their own thing. Remember the saying of the 1960’s – “let it all hang out” – which meant roughly “do whatever you want to do, no matter what anyone else thinks”.
However, in the last few years, footstools have come back in with a bang, because people have realised that after a hard day’s work – whether that’s at the office, doing the gardening, playing football, or any one of a thousand other different things - there is nothing at all quite so wonderful as coming home, slipping off your shoes, and putting your feet up. And where else can you put your feet up than on a footstool?
Footstools Can Serve More Than One Function
At Footstools & More we produce a huge range of different styles of footstools that can serve more than one function. Some of our footstools are long and wide and can be used for two or even three people sitting on a sofa to rest their feet, such as a black ottoman, for instance. A black ottoman in leather can not only be used for more than one person but can also double as a storage unit.
One of the things about the 21st century is that we all seem to have accumulated so much “stuff” that we didn’t have years ago – remotes, laptops, mobile phones, and so on – along with newspapers, books, knitting wools, and more, not to mention the kids’ toys – that can clutter up the living room. An ottoman can be produced with a lid so that you can hide it all away.
But footstools don’t have to be that big, especially if you have a small room. You can have a pouffe instead, and these can be quite small – often round or cubed – and will only take one pair of feet. Even so, your pouffe can have a lid so that you can use it for storage, but you won’t get nearly so much in it. Pouffes can also be used as an extra seat when you have visitors.
